Interview with author Cynthia Gail!!! Woot! Woot!

Today I’m very excited to have author Cynthia Gail stopping by and chatting about her latest book.

Hi Cindy! I know that one of your passions is your writing. Could you tell me something more about yourself?

My husband and I live in the suburbs of Nashville, Tennessee with our eighteen-year-old son and three dogs. When I’m not working or writing, I can be found with family and friends. I love to bake in the winter, grill in the summer, and on occasion, I sneak away from everyone and curl up with a good book.

Your book WINTER’S MAGIC, as well as your newest release, SPRING’S SURPRISE, are part of your  Music City Hearts series.  How many books are planned for the series?

The series started out as a planned trilogy, but I’ve since added a fourth. Lauren, the antagonist from Winter’s Magic is going to have her own book. I live in a state of perpetual hope and just couldn’t stand not turning things around for her.

What is the significance of the seasons in your books, and can we hope for a summer and fall themed book around the corner?

The seasons are symbolic of how life can change so rapidly. The stories flow together chronologically and each heroine has her own ‘season’ for finding true love. Summer’s Family Affair is Jenny’s story, followed by Fall’s Redeeming Grace for Lauren.

In both WINTER’S MAGIC and SPRING’S SURPRISE, the backdrop is La Bella Vita Day Spa and the city of Nashville. How important are these settings for your books?

I love living in the suburbs of Nashville and couldn’t think of a better place to form my stories. And my favorite past time is visiting my local spa, Aqua Bella, for a facial or massage. I actually wrote Spring’s Surprise before I wrote Winter’s Magic and the transformation Sara went through at the spa correlated with the transformation she’d been going through in life. When she walks out of La Bella Vita, she’s renewed, revived, and energized – ready to tackle the world.

Your books have a lot of sizzle as well as a lot of heart. How do you get that right balance between the sex and the romance within the relationship between your main characters?

It’s a difficult balance. The tension in Winter’s Magic when Beth meets Nick is just as immediate as Sara and Jack, but the relationship takes a little more time to develop. In Spring’s Surprise, the nature of their relationship is a weekend fling, so I had to turn up the heat a little faster. But I try to be careful and write the story first, then I can insert the sex scenes. Sex is complicated psychologically, but when used correctly it makes the characters’ emotions much more intense.

Are there any bits and pieces of yourself or those you know floating down onto the paper when you write your stories?

I think every writer includes a little bit of themselves in their stories. We’ve all loved and lost to some degree in our journey. So, even though I’ve not experienced the same situations as my characters, I have felt both fiercely high and desperately low moments in my life that I can draw upon to help add depth to the emotions in my writing.

Your books come across as very optimistic about love and romance. What is it that most inspires you in your writing?

As I said earlier, I live in a state of perpetual hope. I know God has someone for each of us. Someone who understands our needs and wants to experience all life has to offer by our side. Someone who ‘completes us’ if you don’t mind the cliché. Our journey to find that someone takes different paths, but we have to have faith that we’ll find true love, even when the path doesn’t always make sense. Keep walking and keep your eyes open. Love will find you when you least expect it.

Do you have any special writing rituals when you are in the process of creating your stories?

I’m pretty simple. I have to have complete silence and I like to sit on my lounger, with my feet up on pillows.

Can you tell us something about your newest release, SPRING’S SURPRISE?

The message I wanted to convey in Spring’s Surprise, is that every woman should be proud of who she is. We cannot change ourselves for someone else. We can always strive to be more, to be a better person, to grow in life. But true love is someone accepting us for who we are, the way we are, right now. At the risk of sounding philosophical, many young women today lose themselves in what they think the world expects from them. They try to conform to other’s expectations. But beauty is found within ourselves. Let it out – let it shine. And surround yourself with healthy friends who lift you up and encourage you in your journey.

Wow! I’ve read both books and found them great reads and romantically up-lifting as well as sexually hot. You are an optimistic person who gives readers a sense of passion and romance melded together in a wonderful way. I can’t wait for your next books!

Below is the cover of your latest book, SPRING’S SURPRISE. Could you tell a little bit about the story line?

SpringSurprise2_850 (1)

Sara Michaels is single again. And she’s celebrating her thirtieth birthday with a complete spa makeover and a day of boutique shopping with her two best friends. After a ten-month battle for freedom, a long weekend in Nashville, Tennessee is just what she needs to erase the memories of a broken heart.

Jack Tanner is the soon-to-be new partner at Chester & Dorsey Development Firm. Jack’s love life has been on the back burner for years as he’s built a successful career. But the moment he meets Sara, he takes a hard look at his life and his priorities.

Sara steps out of her comfort zone and spends an unforgettable weekend with Jack. She’s never felt so carefree. Until she realizes too late that three days can change everything.

Have a happy, blessed Fourth of July!

logo

2012I hope that everyone has a wonderful, safe Fourth of July! We are spending our Fourth in South Beach in Miami, but we live in fabulous little St. Cloud, a town that sort of has the feel of Tracy, CA, where I grew up.  I feel truly blessed to have been fortunate enough to have been able to retire here in Florida and have exciting places nearby to visit.003 (2)

I’m proud to live in the USA, and on the Fourth of July, I think a great deal about what it means to be a citizen of this wonderful country. Sometimes, I believe a lot of us feel frustrated and glum because there are so many issues that divide us as a country and we get angry at ‘the other side’ because they don’t agree with us or think like us. But it’s our differences and our freedom in being able to express our beliefs without persecution that has made this land so special and unique. If the time comes we cannot speak with civility to one another, especially when we don’t agree, I think that is the time we need to reevaluate our belief system and reconsider what freedom means to each and every one of us. We must be ever vigilant to preserve our freedoms and always willing to preserve our freedom of mind as well as that of our speech.

2008 I’d just like to say once again, have a happy Fourth of July with family and friends. Be safe and take a moment to think about the men and women who fight to keep us free. I love living in the United States and I hope that it means as much to you all as it does to me. Have a fun Fourth and thanks for stopping by. If you have something to share about your Fourth of July, past or present, I’d love to hear from you.

On the lighter side, I’m going to try my first margarita with a beer floater in Miami! Yikes!
