Hope you have a happy Valentine’s Day and that you take time to smell the roses!

Valentine’s Day is a perfect time to let someone know how much you love them and are thinking about them by sending flowers, candy, or a card. When people say take time to smell the roses, do any of us take it to heart? Roses  seem symbolic of a perfect love. Their sensual scent and shape suggest the subtle sensuality love can offer. The delicacy of the rose petals remind us how fragile relationships can be and how easily bruised or ripped apart if not treated with care. Love needs nurturing much like flowers do.

But roses aren’t the only ones and all flowers offer us the promise of hope and rebirth, reminding us rain brings flowers bursting with color and beauty. I love browsing on FB and looking at friends’ pictures of their gardens, imagining their joy as they put the seeds into the earth and their pleasure when the plants and flowers burst open come spring. My mother had a flower garden and my father had a vegetable garden and they both spent happy hours tending their flowers and vegetables. The grandchildren still talk about the flowers Grandma grew and the vegetables Grandpa planted.

So  you have a happy Valentine’s Day, and if someone gives you flowers, or you give flowers to someone, I hope it makes you smile. Unfortunately, I’m not much of a gardener, so I have to enjoy the flowers that others have grown, but I do hope that I remember to take time to smell the roses wherever I am and I hope that you do, too. And may my California friends be blessed with lots of rain for their gardens but the right amount and none too much! For some reason I’m thinking of that song “It Never Rains in California” but when it pours–man it pours! California has always been an extreme state–it can go from drought to mudslides in a minute. Anyway, I hope you all get the perfect amount of rain that you need!

Thanks for stopping by and have a happy Valentine’s Day!
