Travel–Always Full of Surprises!

????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

We just got back from a month trip cruising around the Baltic, Great Britain, and the Scandinavian countries. I was excited to visit St. Petersburg and revisit some places I wrote about in my book, “Tenth Degree of the Paranormal.” Above is the Church on Spilled Blood and Peterhof Palace. Below is another picture of Peterhof Palace and the Peter and Paul Fortress. It was exciting to reconnect with these places.

When we travel, we see marvelous sights, but we are also caught up in the events of the day as well. At first, I was afraid we wouldn’t be able to travel to St. Petersburg because of all that’s happened in the Ukraine, but there were five large cruise ships in St. Petersburg on the days we were there. Putin may not be pleased with Americans, but his country has definitely gotten caught up in the capitalism of tourism. Their tourism has become incredibly sophisticated from when we first visited in the nineties.

???????????????????????????????????????????????????

We were in Glasgow, Scotland, the day before the referendum when Scotland voted to decide whether they wanted to become a separate country or remain within the United Kingdom. It was impossible not to get caught up in the excitement of the historical moment. Of course, the following day the Scots voted to stay with England.

??????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

We were in Tallin, Estonia, the day after President Obama was there, promising his support to the Estonians in case they are threatened by the Russians like the Ukraine has been threatened. I can only hope we keep our promise to these people who treasure their independence.

Above are just a few pictures of Copenhagen, Denmark, Oslo, Norway, Helsinki, Finland, and Reykjavik, Iceland. It looks quite grim in the Iceland picture, but that is the Blue Lagoon and the water is geothermal, making it like a wonderful hot tub. In our journeys, it’s all about special moments we want to hang on to and there were many of those, and even more countries we visited. But there’s something else that makes traveling so special, and that’s the people we meet.

??????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

The top picture is of a wonderful couple we met from Australia who sat with us at dinner. The lower picture is of a fabulous family from Mexico we also met in the dining room. We discovered that while we came from different backgrounds and found various ways to enjoy the countries we visited, we all had the love of travel and adventure. We shared the same language with our Australian friends and we shared our border with our Mexican friends, and we found the things we shared in common far outweighed our differences.

???????????????????????????????????????????????????

Travel is never the same and it’s always a great idea to put your best foot forward when you venture out into the world. And all I’d like to say is thanks for stopping by and ‘cheers’!
