Happy Fourth of July–Or Is It Really???

When I write posts, it’s to share a positive theme, indulge in some nostalgia, talk about the books I’m writing, or talk about books others are writing, or discussing travel. Usually, on patriotic holidays, I post about our country and the men and women who have sacrificed so much to allow our country to be free. This Fourth of July, I’m not as optimistic as usual. There’s racial divisiveness, innocent people being shot in their churches, at their schools, or in a theater. Police officers protecting citizens are being shot with impunity, and this is becoming so prevalent, it’s barely addressed in the news. What the heck is going on??? I know there are many who’d like to say, “It’s the Republicans fault, or it’s the Democrats fault,” but it goes far beyond party lines now. It’s time for Americans to be just that, Americans, and look deep within their hearts to visualize what’s best for America.

I know I will sound really paranoid if I start blaming the media for our ignorance of things, but here goes. I did not even know that a twenty-nine year old police woman was shot by a criminal until I happened to glance it on the internet. Why is this a conservative issue and not an issue for us all? Does this make me a racist because I think this is wrong?

On Wednesday, Omaha Police Officer Kerrie Orozco, 29, was shot dead by a … to
serve a felony arrest warrant to a fugitive thug named Marcus D. Wheeler.

In 2013, thousands of bikers roared into the DC area in remembrance of 9/11, and I didn’t actually hear about it until a few months ago on a T.V. program by NewsMax. http://www.nbcwashington.com/news/local/Two-Million-Bikers-Roar-Into-DC-for-911-223271211.html

And yet, somehow, I know that Kim Kardashian claims she doesn’t have butt implants, her mother has had a breast enhancement operation, and Bruce’s new name is going to be Caitlyn! Is it because this kind of garbage is bombarded on the news constantly?

But how many of us knew about the March for Life that took place on January 22, 2015? Thousands protest abortion in an annual march on the National Mall.  http://www.wjla.com/articles/2015/01/thousands-set-to-protest-abortion-in-annual-march-for-life-in-d-c–110783.html

And yet, do you ever see it on mainstream news? I only actually became aware of this pro-life march a couple of years back because my daughter marched in it.  No reporters there except for Fox News, which is sometimes called ‘Faux News’ by some clever liberals.

Another issue that I’m not hearing on T.V., only on internet, is about us deploying tanks and military equipment to former Eastern Block countries. Am I the only one who thinks this is a HUGE deal??? http://centurylink.net/tv/3/player/vendor/Fox%20News/player/embedded/asset/fox_news-us_to_deploy_tanks_military_equipment_to_eastern_e-foxnews  I’m beginning to feel like Brian Wilson in “Love and Mercy.” Am I being overly paranoid?

This post has made me sad because in spite of what I intended, it has become ‘us’ against ‘them’ and that’s not what I wanted at all.  What I’d really like to see is all the information out there so we can make our own rational decisions. I don’t know about any of you, but I dread the next year-and-a-half of political campaigning. I wish we’d take the lead from Great Britain and only allow four weeks for campaigning. Yes, FOUR weeks! What a dream that would be. I’m sure all the candidates could put all their facts on the table in that time, not spend nearly so much money, and keep their stories straight–difficult to do over a year-and-a-half!

Sorry, to be so gloomy this post. I don’t know about you, but I’m going to go watch fireworks this Fourth, have a margarita, and sing ‘God Bless America’ because I think she needs it! I suggest you do the same and have a wonderful, safe Fourth of July celebrating with your families and friends!

Thanks for stopping by.

    Hi Ann,

Thank you so much! Sometimes I just feel that things need to be said. Too much is happening in our world too fast! Even though we don’t know each other very well, I’ve always felt a bond with you. I hope that doesn’t sound weird! You have a fabulous Fourth as well!

    Best Regards,
    Brenda

    Hi Brenda,
Yes, it is disheartening what is happening in our world. Shootings, killing of innocent good people, threats on Christianity here and abroad.
The Constitution has been re-written by our Supreme Court, but that does not make it right. We must pray for our country and. of course, always remember that God is in Control and He does not want us to lose hope.
My daughter has also been the past six years to every Right To Life Walk in Washington, D.C. on January 22nd each and every year and you are correct…..no publicity.
God bless our land and our Country this July 4th and we pray that He keeps us safe.

    Hi Rosemarie,

I hope you are completely well now! Yes, I think you are so right our country is being bombarded on all sides, and most people don’t even realize how much trouble we’re in, and unfortunately the press keeps us as ignorant as they possibly can. Christianity is being hit even harder than they realize. Christians are being killed all over the world for their beliefs, and do we hear about it? But you are also right, and we just have to trust in God and have faith in His plan. And yes, I will join you in some serious prayer over this holiday weekend for our country. Our daughters must have been on the Right to Life Walk at the same time!

Much Love to you and Richard,
    Brenda & Steve

Per Wikipedia the 2015 March for Life had 800,000 marchers (ninjas) this year.

Wow, Tiff! Nearly a million marchers! That makes it all the more crazy that the press ignores it!
